Handling, processing, storing and delivering file uploads from users can be a bit of a pain in the neck. Same goes for distributing paid for content to buyers securely. We know only too well the work involved in doing things safely and efficiently, and the problems that can arise when storing user files or paid-for content within professional development workflows.

Of course, many developers simply set up their own CDN within a subdirectory or develop some functions to interact with an external storage system. We used methods such as these for years until we decided to take things a step further.

Cache is a free API for developers which processes and stores file uploads and provides a safe and simple method of delivery. As well as this, it provides smart caching, usage stats and handy image functions such as smart crop and scale. For distributing paid-for content, Shed's secure, expiring URLs means no messy manual integration with services such as S3 or CloudFront.
